Recording from our case study launch and online panel discussion on sharing lessons learned in developing environmental and social impact frameworks for impact funds operating in the sustainable land use space. Natalia Pasishnyk (Sustainability Director at SAIL Investments), Vincent Gradt (Co-Founder and Managing Director at Impact Earth), and Sarah Hessel (Senior Manager Impact & Sustainability at Finance in Motion) reflect on their experiences as investment advisors for the &Green Fund, the Amazon Biodiversity Fund, and the eco.business Fund.

The ESKEN webinar ‘Leveraging existing and emerging technologies for biodiversity monitoring in land-use investments’ was held on September 14th, 2023. It started with an introductory presentation covering the data value chain from data collection to sharing, as well as technological developments across each step. A panel discussion followed, focused on how both remote-sensing and novel technologies can be used by financial actors to account for risks and positive impacts in land use projects, in order to improve transparency and efficiency, connect local communities to sources of information, and support claims’ credibility. The ESKEN webinar ‘Navigating the biodiversity credits landscape: risks, opportunities, and timelines’ was held on May 25th, 2023. It started with an introductory presentation covering the context, definitions, and relevant stakeholders in this space. A panel discussion followed, focused on challenges and benefits of biodiversity credits (and carbon credits with high biodiversity value), covering both demand and supply, as well as the safeguards needed to ensure the robust and fair development of the biodiversity credits market. The ESKEN webinar ‘Setting and implementing deforestation cut off dates in land use finance’, was held on the 9th March 2023. The webinar covered the principles of cut off dates, and the technical and practical challenges that funds experience when setting and implementing cut off dates.
